The Big OE

We take international travel as pretty routine these days but the students taking off for Aussie in 1967 must have been going on one big adventure.

Thanks to Br Declan who has been in touch with the following details.

Your blog picture from 1967 was of the departure from New Plymouth of some in the first College group to go on a 'Geographical' tour to Australia. On their arrival at the Brisbane airport photos were taken and appeared the next day on the front page of the Courier Mail. There were about 35 in the group and the trip included visits to Brisbane, the Gold Coast, BoysTown as it then was at Beaudesert. Then followed Sydney, Canberra and the Snowy Mountains. We were away for about ten sleeps. It may be of interest to learn that the amount charged each one in the party was $176 - this covered the costs of flights, the four day bus tour with accommodation and meals.

Hope all going well. It was great to get back there for a short visit recently.
Declan
